Anyone watch the 1st episode of "The Strain" on FX? I thought it was pretty mediocre, but the ending was a bit more intriguing.
The novels (by del Toro) were well-regarded by many reviewers.
The story so far seems to be a mix of horror, SF, and supernatural.
Speaking of mediocre w/ a sci-fi twist. There is an episode of DS9 in which Capt. Sisko (motto- channeling Shatner, w/ just a slight nancy boy attitude) imagines the whole crew as 1950 sci-fi writers.
ReplyDeleteI read "The Passage", the 1st book in another vampire plague series, and thought it was pretty good, mostly because there were some interesting characters. I think that a lot of TV horror/SF breaks down because seeing the characters makes it hard to suspend disbelief. I may read "The Strain" novel just to see if my theory holds; i.e., the book might be pretty good, but the TV character portrayals suck.
